Mortality by cause 1981 - 2007. Spain and autonomous regions

The National Statistics Institute - INE, started to use the fifth revision of the International Classification of Diseases for the encoding of the mortality of the year 1999, keeping it until now.

Elaborated indicators:

  • Number of deaths by age and gender.
  • Mortality rate per 100,000 inhabitants by age and gender.
  • Number of deaths and mortality rate per 100,000 inhabitants by autonomous region.
  • Number of deaths in women and mortality rate in women per 100,000 inhabitants by autonomous region.
  • Number of deaths in men and mortality rate in men per 100,000 inhabitants by autonomous region.

Deaths data : The tabulations and indicators have been elaborated by the Health Information Institute using the microdata files of the National Statistics Institute - INE deaths record coming from the Death Statistical Bulletins. In a national range the total number of deaths includes the ones of Spanish people abroad.

Population data : For the purpose of an estimate of population rates, National Statistics Institute data have been utilised: INE, years 1981 to 1990. Prediction of the Spanish population increase for the period 1980-2010, revised numbers, Based on Census 1981. Years 1991 to 2001. Prediction of the Spanish population increase calculated with basis on Spanish Population Census 1991, last revision. For the years 2002 to 2005. Estimates of the Present Population.
